Fruit Tree Nursery
I am thinking of starting my own organic plant nursery, anyone have any experience in doing this? Any ideas?
I want to specialize in selling edible landscaping plants – Fruit Trees, vines, Shrubs, etc. I am planning on setting this up on the west coast of the US in about 2 years. Anyone have any suggestions on steps I can take now that will help me in the future? Has anyone tried this before?
If you have never grown plants commercially i would suggest getting a job with a Greenhouse/nursery. Since you want to go organic i would find one that is certified organic.
After that all you have to do is buy land and greenhouses and other out buildings pus the equipment you will need for starting and selling plants. Oh, and you will need a nursery license (required in most states) to sell seedlings.
If you want to market these plants as organic you will have to get certified by the USDA NOP. Without organic certification it is illegal to use the term organic (in any of its’ forms) and the USDA can fine a person $5000 per offense.
